Java Coding Camp

Jump-start your programming skills or take them to the next level!

Create custom video games and conquer group-based challenges, all through the power of kids writing code! Teacher-led demos and coding challenges allow for group problem-solving, as campers start applying what they’ve learned to create digital card & board games, platformers, visual-based animations, and more!

Campers start with Greenfoot, a user-friendly tool to start coding in Java. As campers progress throughout the week, we’ll introduce them to a BlueJ, a Java IDE (Integrated Development Environment) to edit and write code for final projects.

A Day at Java Coding Camp

This special week of Camp is for the young programmer who wants to take their skills to the next level.

We start by introducing campers to Java, an object-oriented programming language used in many applications running on your Android device, and in the 2nd best-selling video game of all-time, Minecraft. For kids who’ve used Scratch or another programming language in the past, we’ll relate Java concepts to what they already know, that way they feel comfortable creating manageable projects at their skill level. Our curriculum is self-paced, so they’ll never feel behind. As the week progresses, campers will use BlueJ, a popular Java integrated development environment. On Friday, campers will showcase their projects to family and friends.

Each morning and afternoon have coding demos and special team activities, so campers get to brainstorm and problem solve using some of the knowledge they’ve learned throughout the week.

Early drop off is free, and extended day options are available at an additional charge.

Java Coding Curriculum

This camp must comply with regulations of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and be licensed by the local board of health. Empow Camp shall inform parents at the time application forms are provided that they may request copies of background check, health care and discipline policies as well as procedures for filing grievances.
